Maromac began in 1968 when Esther Marovitch (BA Psych. Dip.PE, Dip.ED) and Sydney Marovitch (M.ED, BA, Dip.PE, Dip.ED) both Physical Education Teachers, purchased a beautiful property in the heart of the Laurentian Mountains to operate a summer camp for children from all over the world.
In 1987, their son Joseph Marovitch, BA Psychology, after years working in the camp on Waterfront as an instructor of Swimming, Sailing, Windsurfing and finally Waterfront Director, became part owner and director. In 1985 Maromac booked its first off-season groups starting with Champlain College and continuing with more schools, Corporate picnics and private affairs.
In 2006 Maromac became a fully dedicated retreat and conference center with accommodations for 70 in winter and 300 in spring, summer and fall.
Maromac now offers its site to individuals as well as groups.
Joseph is married to Tracey Hill, Director of Secondary 1 & 2 at Herzliah High School.
Joseph and Tracey live with their two children in Bois Franc.
